A few months ago, I finally found a TV stand that had all of the requirements I had been looking for for years! Of course, Homegoods was where I found it. That place never lets me down. I was looking for a tv stand that would have shelving I could decorate rather than cabinets that close, a grey wood finish and rustic look, and a large enough size that would allow me to make it my own! After barely fitting into TJ's suv, we got home and it sat in our living room for weeks before deciding what I wanted to put on the shelves.
There are 3 things that should be considered when trying to fill shelves like these... especially shelves that you stare at almost everyday.
1. Color - Do you want to stick to a more neutral color or add some pops of color? Dark hues? Bright objects? I decided to go with pops of color since I eventually want the rest of my living room to be mainly neutrals (ivory/grey/whites). Plus, color makes me happier so figured looking at this every day would add a little joy to my daily life. I made sure to stick to colors that I wouldn't get tired of staring at. I love pinks, blues, and greens, so I avoided red, orange, yellow shades. Base it off of your favorite colors.
2. Texture - To get a look that felt "complete", I wanted to add as much variety as I could when it came to texture. Smooth glossy books, some greenery with a artificial boxwood ball, hobnail vases, acrylic tray, marble, florals, etc. There are still a few things I want to add onto mine but I just haven't found the perfect addition for the lower right corner. I'd highly suggest browsing through Homegoods or Marshall's for unique odds and ends like these.
3. Space - How filled do you want it to be? Do you want to have just a couple items on each shelf or more? Since my shelves were a little oddly shaped, I was able to fill space with taller objects that other ledges could not fit (my hobnail glass vases) which was a great way to fill space with out adding clutter.
We're moving to a little bit larger apartment in a week so you can expect to see some more home posts in the future. I'm excited because it's just downstairs so we won't have to even walk outside to move.
Some other items to style a tv stand with are decorative boxes, baskets, candles, decorate balls or dishes, trays of all sorts, book collections, flowers and plants, picture frames, framed prints.
